Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods, who left WWE in early May after turning down a contract restructuring proposed by TKO, will not be appearing at tonight’s AEW Double or Nothing in Queens, New York.
According to Fightful Select, there is “almost no chance” either man will be at the pay-per-view. The outlet also dismissed the idea that Woods’ convention appearances could signal an early clearance for him to work with AEW.
However, even with both men absent from the event, AEW’s interest in the legendary tag team is very real. Fightful Select also reported that more than a dozen sources within the company said they want Kingston and Woods on the roster, with major names internally pushing Tony Khan to make the signing happen.
It is worth noting that on a recent episode of Being The Elite, Matt Jackson of The Young Bucks revealed that he spoke with Triple H in 2018 about a possible match between The Elite and The New Day. The bout never came together, but with Kingston and Woods now out of WWE, that possibility has gained new traction backstage.
