Teddy Long, one of the most memorable General Managers in WWE SmackDown history, has shut down a rumor that gained traction on social media in recent hours.
The speculation, started by fans on Facebook, claimed Long would return to lead the blue brand when SmackDown goes back to a two-hour format, replacing Nick Aldis, who would supposedly resume his in-ring career. The show is, in fact, expected to change its runtime in late June or early July, but there is no confirmation of any change in the General Manager role.
During an appearance on Road Trip After Hours with Mac Davis, Long said WWE has not contacted him and completely ruled out the possibility.
“I have no idea. I don’t know anything. WWE hasn’t contacted me, hasn’t called me, nothing. Whoever started this, I appreciate you thinking of me, playa. But I just started laughing, because I know that’s not going to happen. They’re not going to call me.”

Long also explained that he is happy with his current routine, making appearances and doing autograph signings, but without the travel schedule that comes with a weekly TV role. The WWE Hall of Famer also said he knows “when to take the cape off” and has no hard feelings toward the company.
It is worth remembering that Long ran SmackDown and ECW for nearly a decade, starting in 2004, becoming one of the most remembered authority figures in recent WWE history.
So despite the fans’ nostalgia, Teddy Long is not expected to return to Friday Night SmackDown as General Manager. For now, the role remains with Nick Aldis.
