MJF became a cause for concern backstage in AEW after the latest episode of Dynamite in Richmond, Virginia, where he successfully defended the AEW World Championship against RUSH.
The injury reportedly happened during one of the most violent moments of the match. MJF hit a tombstone piledriver on RUSH onto a broken piece of the barricade, but landed awkwardly and immediately began showing signs of knee pain.
Despite being hurt, the champion managed to get back into the ring, locked in the LeBell Lock, and won by stoppage after RUSH passed out without officially submitting.
The situation gained traction the next day when Beyond Wrestling announced that MJF had hyperextended his knee and was not medically cleared to travel or compete. As a result, he was pulled from Friday’s Break The Walls Down event in Cranston, Rhode Island, where he had been scheduled to face Bobby Orlando.
However, despite the scare, the injury is not expected to keep MJF out of AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door.
I think MJF most likely injured his knee on this tombstone piledriver.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, MJF’s knee is swollen and the champion is in pain, but there is no expectation that he will be removed from AEW’s plans for the pay-per-view.
“MJF’s knee is swollen and he’s in pain. However, he is 1 million % confirmed to do what he is scheduled to do at Forbidden Door.”
Forbidden Door will take place on June 28 at the SAP Center in San Jose, California, with a start time of 7 p.m. ET. This year’s event will feature talent from AEW, NJPW, CMLL, and STARDOM.
As of now, AEW has not officially announced MJF’s match for the show. On this week’s Dynamite, however, Mark Briscoe once again challenged him for the AEW World Championship, while Andrade El Ídolo and Kevin Knight also put themselves in the champion’s path.
