MJF’s injury reportedly came from a RUSH knee strike, not the barricade spot on AEW Dynamite.

MJF left this week’s AEW Dynamite injured, but the origin of the issue was not exactly what many fans pointed to after the show.

The current AEW World Champion defended his title against RUSH on Wednesday’s episode from Richmond, Virginia, in a No Countout Match.

At one point during the match, there was a Tombstone Piledriver onto part of the broken barricade, which led many people to believe the injury happened in that spot.

According to Fightful Select, however, that version is not accurate. MJF’s injury happened after a knee strike from RUSH in the corner, with the incident being described backstage as an unusual accident.

The report also noted that there is no heat on RUSH over what happened. The situation is being treated internally as something unexpected, not as the result of carelessness by the Mexican wrestler during the match.

As previously reported, MJF’s knee is swollen and sore, but AEW’s plans for Forbidden Door on June 28 at the SAP Center in San Jose are not in jeopardy.
