WWE has paid tribute to “Superstar” Bill Dundee, who died Sunday at 82.
His son, Jamie Dundee, announced the news and said his father died around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, September 6. A cause of death hasn’t been made public.
WWE posted its statement on social media shortly after.
“WWE is saddened to learn that Memphis wrestling legend Bill Dundee has passed away. WWE extends its condolences to Dundee’s family, friends, and fans.”

6:58 PM · Sep 6, 2026Born in Scotland and raised in Australia, Dundee arrived in the Memphis territory in 1974 and spent the next several decades as one of the biggest names in the region. Most of that came alongside Jerry “The King” Lawler, who was his partner as often as he was his rival.
Dundee held versions of the Southern Heavyweight Championship several times and won the AWA World Tag Team Championship twice with Lawler in 1987. He was also known to a national audience as Sir William, the manager of William Regal in WCW.
Dundee’s final Memphis Wrestling appearance aired on Saturday, September 5, a day before his death. Members of the roster honored him on that show.
