MJF could be left off AEW Redemption, the company’s next pay-per-view, after dropping the AEW World Championship to Kenny Omega last week.
According to Fightful Select, when asked about plans for MJF at the event, a source indicated he may stay off programming for now.
The former world champion is still expected to factor into plans for AEW All In, though there is no word yet on a possible opponent.
His absence stands out because the MJF vs. Omega match, which took place on Dynamite, was originally scheduled for Redemption.
Per Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, MJF himself reportedly pushed for the match to happen on AEW Dynamite, an idea Tony Khan later signed off on.
At the Beach Break special on July 8, Omega defeated MJF to capture the AEW World Championship. In the closing moments, Will Ospreay stopped MJF from using the Dynamite Diamond Ring, clearing the way for Omega to hit three V-Triggers and the One-Winged Angel.
With the win, Omega is set to defend the world title against Ospreay at All In, which takes place August 30 at Wembley Stadium in London.
Redemption goes down July 26 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, marking AEW’s first pay-per-view in the Canadian city.
