AEW made a major change to its plans for the AEW World Championship ahead of this week’s Dynamite: Beach Break.
The third match between MJF and Kenny Omega was originally scheduled for Redemption, the pay-per-view set for July 26 at Bell Centre in Montreal. However, the bout was moved up to television in a decision made recently by the company.
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there’s a belief that the suggestion for the change came from MJF. The change, though, still needed final approval from Tony Khan.
“I was not given a reason why, but it doesn’t matter where the suggestion came from, that’s a major change and Tony Khan approved of it. So he must feel he’s got something PPV worthy for Montreal on 7/26.”

At Beach Break, Omega defeated MJF after hitting three V-Triggers and the One-Winged Angel, capturing the AEW World Championship for the second time in his career. Will Ospreay also played a direct role in the finish, stopping the then-champion from using the Dynamite Diamond Ring.
The stipulation stated that if Omega lost, he would never be able to challenge for the world title again. Before this week, MJF had won the two previous matches between them, including the title defense at Dynasty in April.
With the win, Omega is confirmed to defend the title against Ospreay at All In: London on August 30 at Wembley Stadium.
For Redemption, AEW has already confirmed Thekla vs. Willow Nightingale for the AEW Women’s World Championship.
