Brock Lesnar and Gunther were supposed to headline one of the biggest matches on the WWE SummerSlam 2026 card. Instead, WWE scrapped those plans.
According to Self Made Pro, on the Self Made Session, the original idea had Gunther facing Roman Reigns in the late spring/early summer before moving on to a showdown with Lesnar in Minneapolis.
“GUNTHER was supposed to face Brock at SummerSlam, and GUNTHER was supposed to face Roman in the late spring/early summer. For whatever reason, that got changed, so that switched up a lot of creative.”
That change sent all three wrestlers down completely different paths. Lesnar will face Oba Femi in a Hell in a Cell match at SummerSlam, set for August 1-2 at U.S. Bank Stadium — their third meeting this year.
Roman Reigns will defend the World Heavyweight Championship against Seth Rollins at the event.
Gunther still doesn’t have an official match for SummerSlam, though he did attack General Manager Nick Aldis on the latest episode of SmackDown. He’s also confirmed to team with Sami Zayn to face CM Punk and Cody Rhodes at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
