Paul Heyman believes a Jacob Fatu win over Roman Reigns at Backlash would completely shake up WWE.
During an appearance on ESPN’s Get Up, Heyman said Fatu would become a major problem if he leaves Tampa as World Heavyweight Champion. In Heyman’s view, the “Samoan Werewolf” is not the kind of champion WWE needs.
“Completely turns WWE completely upside down. Jacob Fatu can go off at any time and that’s not exactly who you want on ‘Good Morning America’ or ‘Get Up’ or ‘First Take’ and not exactly the people friendly champion that we come to expect from WWE. He’s a publicity nightmare.”
“Well, what’s at stake is a lot of family honor here. Roman Reigns is the Head of the Table and Roman Reigns is a multi-millionaire being the absolute number one top star in the entire industry thanks to his Wise Man, Paul Heyman. Now, here’s Jacob Fatu, who makes a nice living, but it’s not the living of the Tribal Chief, Roman Reigns … no matter what you think of sports entertainment or professional wrestling or WWE, the top star makes the most money and Jacob Fatu wants to be the top star.”
Reigns and Fatu are set to clash this Saturday, May 9, at WWE Backlash. WWE has framed the match as a family threat to the OTC’s reign, with Fatu challenging Reigns shortly after he regained a world title by defeating CM Punk in the main event of WrestleMania 42.
Fatu has been heavily featured in the feud over the past few shows. On this week’s RAW, he attacked Reigns again, hit him with the Tongan Death Grip, and signed the match contract.
Backlash will also feature Seth Rollins vs. Bron Breakker, Trick Williams vs. Sami Zayn, IYO SKY vs. Asuka, and a match involving Danhausen, The Miz, and Kit Wilson.
