Carmelo Hayes returned to WWE television on Monday’s Raw in Bossier City, Louisiana, ending an absence of nearly two months. He did so in surprise fashion by joining Royce Keys’ 946, which is in a major feud with The Bloodline.
Hayes had been off television since Aug. 14, when he lost to Baron Corbin in a United States Championship match. During that stretch, his absence raised questions about whether he would leave WWE over not being used.
False Finish reports, however, that the long absence came down to WWE needing more time to develop the storyline between The Bloodline and 946 before finally bringing Hayes back.
As previously reported, Royce Keys was the one who pitched bringing Hayes into 946. WWE’s creative team signed off on the idea and decided to wait until the feud had progressed before putting it into action.
During Monday’s episode, Hayes showed up unannounced, attacked Solo Sikoa and helped Keys, Bronco Nima, Lucien Price and Jaida Parker lay out The Bloodline.
Hayes is expected to play a key role in the build to Survivor Series: WarGames, set for Nov. 28 at Daikin Park in Houston. The feud between 946 and The Bloodline is seen as the show’s marquee attraction.
Raw heads to San Diego next week, and Roman Reigns’ return has been announced for the show.
