The Motor City Machine Guns are off AEW television again, just days after finally wrestling their first match since signing with the company.
According to Sean Ross Sapp on Fightful’s post-Dynamite coverage, Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin’s absence is tied to commitments they’d already taken on before joining AEW. The team made it clear to the company from the start that they intended to honor those dates before going full-time.
Sapp also noted that the Motor City Machine Guns were not even in a hurry to debut on the July 30 Collision in Detroit. AEW, however, felt it was the right moment to officially introduce them, given that Detroit is Shelley and Sabin’s hometown.
After that appearance, the two were off programming for nearly a month before resurfacing at All In: London on August 30. There, Shelley and Sabin confronted AEW World Tag Team Champions Adam Copeland and Christian Cage, with FTR and New Level also stepping into the mix.
Their first match since signing did not come until the September 5 Collision, when they defeated The Swirl (Blake Christian and Lee Johnson). They haven’t been back on TV since.
The Motor City Machine Guns are also not part of the AEW World Tag Team Championship match at All Out on September 26. As of now, Copeland and Cage will defend the titles against FTR and the Young Bucks in a 3-Way Ladder Match.
