Rey Mysterio, AAA’s General Manager, has announced the first match for WWE Survivor Series: WarGames 2026, a traditional Survivor Series elimination match between Team USA and Team Mexico.
Mysterio recently told Stephanie McMahon on her What’s Your Story? show that the 5-on-5 match was set after he talked to Adam Pearce and Nick Aldis, the General Managers of Raw and SmackDown, respectively.
“I had a couple of words with Adam Pearce and Nick Aldis, and we are going to put together something very special,” Mysterio said. He added that it will be “a classic five vs. five Survivor Series match” between Team USA and Team Mexico.
The teams have yet to be announced. When McMahon asked if he would be on one of the teams, Mysterio, who was in the Intercontinental Championship ladder match at WrestleMania 42 in April, didn’t confirm it.
“Well, I won’t speak out right now as it is, because we’re still putting the pieces together,” Mysterio said.
Mysterio has been the General Manager of AAA, the Mexican promotion WWE acquired in 2025, since May. AAA wrestlers are expected to be part of Team Mexico.
This will be the first time in five years that the show has a traditional Survivor Series elimination match. The last one took place in 2021, back when it was still Raw vs. SmackDown. Since 2022, the show has been called Survivor Series: WarGames and has been built around the men’s and women’s WarGames matches, and the last four haven’t had one.
There was a similar situation 29 years ago at Survivor Series 1997 in Montreal, Canada. That night, Team USA’s Vader, Goldust, Marc Mero and Steve Blackman lost to Team Canada’s British Bulldog, Jim Neidhart, Doug Furnas and Phil LaFon. That match was 4-on-4, and Bulldog was the only one to survive. This time, the match will be held in the United States.
The 2026 Survivor Series: WarGames is scheduled for Saturday, November 28, at Daikin Park, the home of the Houston Astros, in Houston, Texas.
It will be the 40th Survivor Series and the show’s first time back in Houston since 2017.
