Ronda Rousey revealed that WWE had approved a major plan for a singles match against Becky Lynch, but the project was ultimately dropped before it ever got off the ground.
In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Rousey said that after WrestleMania 35, she printed out a full presentation for the company, laying out how the match with Lynch would be built, rehearsed, and woven throughout the show. According to her, Vince McMahon and the creative team approved the idea at the time.
However, Rousey stepped away from WWE to have her daughter, and when she returned in 2022, she was told the conversation had already happened “a year ago.” According to Rousey, the idea was to have one final showdown with Lynch that could sum up the entire rivalry, even for viewers watching it for the first time.

It is worth remembering that Rousey and Lynch never had a singles match in WWE. Their biggest in-ring meeting came at WrestleMania 35, when Becky defeated Rousey and Charlotte Flair in the first women’s main event in the show’s history, winning both the RAW and SmackDown titles.
When Rousey returned at the 2022 Royal Rumble and won the women’s match, expectations for that bout started growing again. However, she went on to face Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 38, while Lynch defended the RAW Women’s Championship against Bianca Belair.
Rousey left WWE in 2023 and is now focused on her MMA return against Gina Carano at an MVP event streaming on Netflix.
