Shayna Baszler came to Ronda Rousey’s defense after some fans accused her win over Gina Carano at MVP MMA 1 of being worked.

Rousey defeated Carano this past Saturday at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California, winning by submission in just 17 seconds. The fight marked both women’s return to MMA and was part of Most Valuable Promotions’ combat-sports debut, which streamed on Netflix.

On her official X account, Baszler mocked the criticism and pointed out that 17 seconds is not even the fastest win of the former UFC champion’s career.

“If you want to know how fast the memory of MMA fans gets erased, 17 seconds isn’t even her fastest win and people think it was worked, lol. What about her :14 win over Zigano? Or her :16 win over Davis? Or her other 5 wins under :30? Or her 9 total wins under a minute?”

The numbers Baszler cited line up with Rousey’s record. Against Cat Zingano in 2015, she won in 14 seconds, a mark that still appears in the UFC record book as the fastest submission in company history. Against Alexis Davis in 2014, Rousey won in 16 seconds.

After the fight with Carano, Rousey again indicated that she is likely headed back into retirement. The victory improved her MMA record to 13-2, with ten wins by submission.
