Sami Zayn may not be in line for a long reign as Undisputed WWE Champion, at least in Dave Meltzer’s view.
Zayn won the title last Saturday at Night of Champions in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, defeating Cody Rhodes and Gunther in a Triple Threat Match. Late in the match, Rhodes hit a Double Cross Rhodes, but Zayn managed to reverse the sequence into a roll-up, scoring the pinfall and winning the title for the first time in his career.
On a recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer discussed Zayn’s victory and compared the situation to Darby Allin winning the AEW World Championship.
“The championship change was a surprise. I don’t think he’s the guy in their plans. It’s very similar to Darby Allin, in a sense that, at some point they were gonna do (it). The Darby Allin thing turned out to be a pretty big success the way it was done, and this could be too. I don’t see a long reign, but I would hope it’s longer than SummerSlam. Long enough to where it’s not like one of those things where ‘Well, we finally gave it to him, but we didn’t mean it.’”
Dave Meltzer thinks Sami Zayn's Undisputed WWE Championship win is a "very similar" situation to Darby Allin winning the AEW World Title, as he doesn't see Zayn having a long reign:

The comparison to Allin makes sense because of the length of his title reign. Allin won the AEW World Championship on April 15 at Spring BreakThru by defeating MJF, but dropped the title back to MJF at Double or Nothing on May 24, holding the belt for 39 days.
For Zayn, the biggest point to watch is SummerSlam. Oba Femi won the King of the Ring by defeating Jey Uso at that same Night of Champions, earning the right to choose a world title match at the biggest event of the summer.
That means if Femi chooses Zayn, the new champion could already be facing a major threat in his first major title defense.
