Sin Cara, who now goes by Cinta de Oro, has made it clear he is not closing the door on a WWE return nearly seven years after his departure from the company.
He opened his interview with TMZ’s Inside the Ring by talking about opportunities for Mexican and Latino wrestlers, saying that has always been one of his biggest wishes in pro wrestling.
“He got the opportunity to become a star. That’s all we’ve asked all this time. All I ask is an opportunity. All I ask for the new generation is an opportunity for the Mexican kids or Latino kids to showcase their talent. That’s all we’ve asked all this time. And hopefully that time has come now.”
The comments come as WWE programming features a strong Latino presence. This month, the company returned to Mexico City with SmackDown and Raw for the first time in 15 years, and Penta challenged Roman Reigns for the World Heavyweight Championship on the September 14 show.
Cinta de Oro was asked directly whether he would play Sin Cara again if WWE called, and he said he now sees his earlier run in a different light.
“I mean, I think I’ve gotten more mature now. When you’re younger, you do a lot of decisions for your emotions. I get that as you get older, as your kids get older and you’re in time, you’re out of that big monster, you realize a lot of things. For me, I wouldn’t mind coming back.
“If they would ask me or we would talk, ‘Hey, you want to portray Sin Cara again?’ I would love to do that definitely again and give it another shot.”
Sin Cara publicly requested his release from WWE on November 11, 2019, saying he felt stuck and undervalued. The company granted the request on December 8. His final televised match was against Drew McIntyre on Raw.
He has worked as Cinta de Oro ever since. In 2025, he opened a lucha libre school in El Paso, Texas, at the Boys & Girls Club he attended as a child, with a focus on preparing a new generation of talent.
