Steven Borden appears to be on the verge of officially joining the AEW roster. Sting’s son has been in development with the company for several months and has reportedly already signed a deal.
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reported that when he sought an update on Borden’s status, the word backstage is that he’s believed to already be under contract with Tony Khan’s promotion. AEW has not officially announced the signing.
The report marks a step forward from what was reported in December 2025, when AEW sources indicated they expected Borden to be signed soon if a deal wasn’t already in place.
Since then, Borden has been working dark matches on a regular basis before AEW shows. In July, Tony Khan confirmed the company has been directly involved in his development and expressed strong confidence in his future.
“We’re training Sting’s son, Steven. Right now he wrestles before every show in dark matches. I think he’s going to become an extraordinary wrestler. I’m very proud of the work he’s doing.”

9:01 PM · Aug 18, 2026AEW’s interest in Borden is nothing new. Back in February, Khan had already called his development a “major priority” for the company. Before pursuing a career in pro wrestling, Steven played tight end at the University of Kentucky, where he appeared in 21 games over two seasons.
Borden also played a direct role in Sting’s retirement at AEW Revolution 2024, showing up during the match against The Young Bucks dressed as the Wolfpac version of his father.
