Tay Melo is leaving AEW. During Thursday’s press conference to promote Redemption, Tony Khan said he will grant the release request the wrestler submitted last month.
According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, Khan explained that Melo plans to step away from professional wrestling. At this point, the decision has nothing to do with a possible move to WWE, TNA, or any other promotion.
The update also clarifies a report that surfaced earlier this week. Bryan Alvarez had reported that Melo asked to leave AEW in 2025, but the request was denied. The request Khan referenced now is more recent and will have a different outcome.
The release has not been finalized. As of this report, Melo remained on AEW’s official roster alongside Anna Jay as part of TayJay.
Melo returned to the ring on January 3, 2025, at Stardom’s New Year Dream event, following nearly two years away due to her pregnancy and the birth of her daughter. She returned to AEW programming that June.
Melo’s last match came on the June 6, 2026, episode of Collision, where she and Anna Jay lost to Divine Dominion, the team of Megan Bayne and Lena Kross, in a match for the AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championship.
