Tony Khan added a surprise match to the AEW Redemption card: a six-man ladder match that will determine the next challenger for the AEW International Championship.
The winner will face whoever leaves Montreal with the title — Kyle Fletcher or ROH World Champion Bandido. Not every spot in the ladder match will be filled before the July 25 episode of Collision.
“Jungle” Jack Perry, The Beast Mortos, Komander and “Speedball” Mike Bailey were randomly selected to fill four of the six spots. The final two will be decided in matches between AR Fox and Nick Wayne, and between Lio Rush and El Clon.
Komander enters the pay-per-view just days after challenging Fletcher for the AEW International Championship. On the July 15 episode of Dynamite, the masked star took the champion to the limit before falling short in the first defense of Protostar’s current reign.
The Fox-Wayne matchup also comes with history between the two. On May 14, Fox defeated Wayne to win the ROH World Television Championship, ending Wayne’s 387-day reign.
Jack Perry, on the other hand, has already gotten the better of several names in the match. At AEW Revolution in March, he won the 21-man Blackjack Battle Royale, which also included Mortos, Komander, Fox, Rush and El Clon. Perry eliminated Clon and, last, Ricochet to capture the AEW National Championship.
With the ladder match, AEW will have the next International Championship challenger determined the same night Fletcher and Bandido settle the future of the title.
Redemption takes place July 26 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec.
