Add as a preferred source on Google Tony Khan says AEW needs to pump the brakes on signings, with competition for spots on Dynamite and Collision continuing to grow.
AEW was aggressive in free agency to start 2026, signing Andrade El Idolo, Tommaso Ciampa, Jake Doyle and the members of The Rascalz, among others for both the men’s and women’s rosters.
Speaking on a recent episode of ROAR Around The Ring, Khan said AEW will have to carefully evaluate any potential signing going forward.
“There’s a lot of competition in AEW right now, so we have to be very considerate about who we sign and about who comes in to compete. Because right now, there’s already so many great wrestlers competing for these spots on TV and PPVs.”
The comments come as the free agent market heats up again. Kairi Sane, Aleister Black, Zelina Vega, Santos Escobar and the Motor City Machine Guns are among the names available after being released by WWE.
Wrestling Observer Newsletter recently reported that at least seven wrestlers are waiting on a potential AEW deal.
Khan said months ago that he was constantly evaluating the market. His latest comments signal a shift though — AEW isn’t expected to sign based on name value alone, not without a clear spot on TV.
