Triple H Was Behind Nick Aldis’s Emotional WWE SummerSlam Moment

WWE footage reveals Triple H arranged for Mickie James and Donovan to join Aldis in the ring after his SummerSlam match.

Triple H Was Behind Nick Aldis’s Emotional WWE SummerSlam Moment

Nick Aldis delivered one of the most emotional moments at WWE SummerSlam 2026 after making his in-ring debut for the company against Gunther.

Despite losing via submission, Aldis received a massive ovation that included “You Still Got It” chants, as Mickie James and their son Donovan entered the ring to embrace him.

As it turns out, that family moment was no accident.

A new behind-the-scenes video released by WWE, documenting Triple H’s SummerSlam weekend, revealed that the idea to bring James and Donovan into the ring after the match came directly from the chief creative officer himself. Triple H wanted to give Aldis a special moment following his first WWE match.

The moment carried even more weight given how long Aldis had been away from the ring. He hadn’t competed since 2023 and had been serving exclusively as Friday Night SmackDown General Manager.

Mickie James later revealed that Donovan was closely involved throughout his father’s preparation, even documenting his training sessions ahead of SummerSlam. For her, watching the match alongside their son represented a dream come true for the family.

Triple H also showed his support for Aldis after the bout. He turned down Aldis’s attempt to permanently step away from the General Manager role and placed him back in charge of SmackDown.

There’s also a backstage expectation that SummerSlam won’t be Aldis’s last WWE match, though another in-ring appearance is considered more likely for 2027.
