Cain Velasquez could have returned to the ring for AAA if WWE had not purchased the Mexican promotion last year.
According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, AAA’s previous regime had strong interest in bringing back the former UFC Heavyweight Champion. Names such as Dorian Roldan and Konnan were said to be major supporters of Velasquez, especially for major events.
However, the situation changed completely after WWE announced, in April 2025, its acquisition of AAA in partnership with Fillip. The purchase also paved the way for Worlds Collide, a joint event between the two companies held in Los Angeles.
Meltzer noted that WWE does not see Velasquez as part of AAA’s current goals. According to him, the company’s idea is not simply to bring in a Mexican celebrity for immediate appeal.
Velasquez has a strong connection with AAA. In 2019, he was announced for his pro-wrestling debut at TripleManía. At the time, the former UFC star was already talking about his love for lucha libre dating back to his childhood.
His last appearance for the company came in December 2022, in a trios match alongside Blue Demon Jr. and Pagano against Taurus, Sam Adonis, and Gringo Loco.
With that, Velasquez’s return to AAA appears increasingly unlikely.
