WWE has booked a title vs. title match for the July 31 episode of Friday Night SmackDown, the final show before SummerSlam. R-Truth and Damian Priest will face The War Raiders (Erik and Ivar), with the WWE Tag Team Championship and the AAA World Tag Team Championship both on the line.

The match was announced during the July 24 show, when Truth ran into Priest backstage and brought up the long-awaited showdown. Priest then revealed the bout was set for the following week, before going on to compete in the Fatal 4-Way match won by Finn Bálor in the main event.

The rivalry between the two teams dates back to the June 5 episode of SmackDown. That’s when The War Raiders showed up with their AAA titles and made it clear they had their eyes on the WWE championship.

Three weeks later, Priest officially accepted the challenge from Erik and Ivar. Even so, no date had been set, a point the AAA champions brought up again during the July 10 show.

The War Raiders won the AAA World Tag Team Championship on May 30, defeating Psycho Clown and Pagano at Noche de Los Grandes in Monterrey. They have not defended the titles since. In their most recent match, on July 17, Erik and Ivar beat Fraxiom in a non-title bout.

Priest and Truth, meanwhile, have held the WWE Tag Team Championship since March 20, when they defeated JC Mateo and Tama Tonga. Their most recent defense came on June 19, against Tama Tonga and Talla Tonga.
