WWE could be planning one of the biggest changes in Royal Rumble history in the coming years, turning the premium live event into a two-night attraction.

According to Ringside News, the possibility has already been discussed internally, though no final decision has been made. The report also doesn’t point to a specific year for the format’s debut. Since the 2026 Royal Rumble already took place on January 31, any change would only take effect starting in 2027.

The plans discussed reportedly call for the men’s Royal Rumble match to close out one night, while the women’s match would headline the other, with additional matches forming two separate cards. However, the main factor under consideration is WWE’s ability to sell tickets for two nights.

WWE has already done this recently with SummerSlam. The 2025 edition, held at MetLife Stadium, was the first in company history to run over two nights, while this year’s show takes place on August 1 and 2 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.

The problem is that SummerSlam 2026 has been causing concern backstage. According to WrestleTix, just over 22,000 tickets have been sold for night one and roughly 23,800 for night two, numbers considered below expectations for a stadium show.

The possibility of expanding other events isn’t new. Mark Shapiro, TKO’s COO, said back in 2024 that the company saw opportunities to turn other premium live events into two-day attractions. However, later reports indicated that WWE’s deal with ESPN only covers WrestleMania and SummerSlam in that format, which could delay those plans.
