Teddy Long has once again publicly defended the idea of Vince McMahon potentially returning to WWE, even as the company’s former owner has remained away from WWE since January 2024.
Speaking recently on TMZ’s Inside The Ring, the WWE Hall of Famer said the company has plenty of talent on its roster, but many names end up hurt by the way they are used on TV.
“Got a lot of talent out there now, and some guys are doing great and some guys are not. And it’s based on the creative people, the people that are in charge of what you do out on that TV. That’s how your career is based… I think what we gotta do, we gotta get Vince back so we can do this thing right and get the fans back on board.
I don’t think the chapter has ever closed with him. I don’t know what happened or any of that stuff, but to me, in my knowing him, this was his life. He loved this. I had a chance to ride on the plane with him and one night we was on the plane and as soon as we took off, he talked about wrestling until we landed,
— I have that Legends deal, so if they call me, I have to go to work… I’ll do what I’m told, what I have to do. But if I had to go back, I wish it would be under the whims of Vince McMahon.”
It is important to note that McMahon has not held a role with WWE or TKO since January 2024, when he resigned as executive chairman of the parent company following the lawsuit filed by Janel Grant, who has accused him of sexual abuse and sex trafficking. McMahon denies all allegations.
The case also remains ongoing in U.S. court. In February, the parties agreed to a June hearing to discuss whether the lawsuit should move forward in public court or be sent to private arbitration.
WWE’s creative direction is currently still led by Paul “Triple H” Levesque, who has served as the company’s Chief Content Officer since 2022.
