WWE Issues Negative Update on Royce Keys’ Status During RAW

Royce Keys is off WWE programming indefinitely following the brutal attack by Jacob Fatu on this week’s RAW.

During Monday night’s show at the Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia, Michael Cole announced that Keys suffered a laryngeal contusion and cervical strain. No timetable for his return has been provided.

The injuries, however, are entirely storyline. According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Keys was not legitimately hurt during the attack.

Meltzer reported that the entire segment was planned by WWE, shooting down rumors that the company used the beatdown to cover for an actual injury.

Keys and Fatu collided in a Street Fight on the August 3 RAW. After putting his former friend out with the Tongan Death Grip, Fatu continued the assault, wrapping a chair around Keys’ neck and delivering a running hip attack. Keys began bleeding from the mouth and was eventually stretchered out of the arena.

Just two days earlier, at SummerSlam, Keys teamed with Solo Sikoa and LA Knight to defeat Jacob Fatu and The Usos in a 6-Man Tag Team Match.

Keys has been on a remarkable rise since leaving AEW in early 2026. A former TNT Champion and World Trios Champion, he won the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal on April 17, 2026, just months into his WWE tenure.
