Stephen A. Smith may be moving closer to a direct role on WWE programming, and Triple H appears interested in turning it into something involving Paul Heyman.

During an appearance on The Stephen A. Smith Show, WWE’s chief creative officer heard Smith bring up Heyman again, admitting that the “Wise Man” occupies the exact kind of spot he would want if he entered WWE. Smith also acknowledged that Heyman may be the one person he is not fully prepared to face on the microphone.

“Paul Heyman, if I was going to be in this business in WWE, I would actually be a competitor because that is who I would want to model myself after. He’s got my spot. He’s the best at it!”

Triple H, for his part, did not dismiss the idea. Instead, he framed a possible verbal showdown between the two as something with major commercial appeal for WWE.

“He is the man in our world when it comes to running his mouth, and I do say you are up there with yours…I’m waiting. You tell me when I pull that trigger. Paul Heyman versus Stephen A, that is the money, man. That is the money…we’re gonna do it. Believe me, I’m gonna pay to see that war. I want to see it.”

The comments stand out because Smith has already been mentioned as a possible recurring figure in WWE. WrestleVotes Radio, via Fightful Select, previously reported that people connected to ESPN were very excited about the possibility of Smith getting more involved with the company, with some kind of payoff planned for the summer.

Smith also appeared at WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas, where he was shown on the broadcast and booed by the crowd. His name had already been circulating in ideas tied to the WWE and ESPN partnership, especially after WWE gave more on-air space to ESPN personalities.

WWE has not officially announced anything as of now. In other words, if it happens, an interaction between Heyman and Smith would likely be treated first as an entertainment segment, not necessarily as a match.
