WWE‘s post-WrestleMania 42 cuts reportedly targeted older talent to build a younger roster, though reasons varied by wrestler.
WWE has reportedly adopted a new internal criterion for some of its recent post-WrestleMania 42 releases. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, many main roster cuts were age-related, as the company looks to build a younger roster going forward.
The list of releases drew considerable attention due to the number of well-known names. Aleister Black, Zelina Vega, Kairi Sane, Apollo Crews, Santos Escobar, the Motor City Machine Guns, and practically the entire Wyatt Sicks were among those who left the company.
It is important to note that not all cases were decided for the same reason. WON also reported that WWE believed it had gotten everything it could out of the Wyatt Sicks, while Black and Vega were seen as talents without major creative plans for the future.
Backstage, a theory also circulated that TKO had rejected darker characters, largely due to the departures of Black and the Wyatt Sicks. However, Dave Meltzer denied this, stating the decisions never even reached that corporate level.
With this, WWE appears to be entering a new restructuring phase, targeting younger talent from NXT, EVOLVE, and the independent scene.
It remains unclear whether more names will be released in the coming weeks. However, the trend suggests the company will continue adjusting the roster for the new post-WrestleMania season.
