WWE has suffered another major blow to its roster. Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods, two of the most important names in recent tag team history, have left the company.
According to Fightful Select and Cory Hays of Bodyslam.net, the New Day members mutually agreed to part ways with WWE. Their exits come during a fresh round of releases, just days after the wave of cuts that followed WrestleMania 42.
JC Mateo and Tonga Loa have also departed. All four have been moved to the Alumni section of WWE’s official website, which is typically reserved for talent no longer under contract.
The departures of Kingston and Woods are especially surprising because both were recently reported to have re-signed. Fightful Select noted that Woods had signed a new deal while Kofi was believed to be under contract until 2030.
Kofi Kingston debuted in WWE in 2007 and went on to become WWE Champion, as well as Intercontinental Champion, United States Champion and a multi-time tag team champion. Xavier Woods, meanwhile, won the 2021 King of the Ring and also captured several tag team titles.
The New Day, originally formed by Kofi, Woods and Big E, became one of the most popular stables in WWE history and set one of the company’s most memorable tag team title reigns.
As of now, WWE has not issued an official statement on the departures.
