Roman Reigns has started talking far more openly about winding down his WWE schedule. In an interview with Complex, the current World Heavyweight Champion said there are enough loose ends and “logic gaps” to fill a few more years, while also discussing his own process of “phasing out.”
With that in mind, a look back at everything that has happened in recent years points to five stories that seem too important to simply leave behind.
Settling the LA Knight Story for Good
Reigns and LA Knight are finally set to meet again at Money in the Bank on October 10, nearly three years after their first match.
At Crown Jewel 2023, Knight came very close to winning the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. He hit the BFT and had Reigns down, but Jimmy Uso put Reigns’ foot on the rope. Solo Sikoa was also involved in the interference that night.
Knight will now get a new title opportunity, with the World Heavyweight Championship at stake. For a feud that was on hold for so long, this is the moment to deliver an outcome that does not come down to Reigns’ family again. It needs to be definitive.
Resolving Unfinished Business With Paul Heyman
It is hard to imagine Reigns’ transformation into the Tribal Chief working the same way without Paul Heyman at his side. That is why the betrayal at WrestleMania 41 was too big to end up as just one part of Seth Rollins’ story.
Heyman hit Reigns with a low blow and handed a chair to Rollins, who went on to win the Triple Threat Match. Reigns has already settled the score with Rollins, beating him at this year’s SummerSlam and capping the match with the famous Shield fist bump.
With Heyman, however, there has never been similar closure. It does not have to be a match, of course, but that relationship deserves one last chapter before Reigns steps away from WWE.
Deciding the Future of The Bloodline
Reigns has managed to rebuild part of The Bloodline in 2026. Jacob Fatu lost in Tribal Combat at Clash in Italy and, on the following episode of Raw, honored the stipulation by acknowledging Reigns as his Tribal Chief. Before that, Jey and Jimmy Uso had already realigned with Reigns.
Solo Sikoa, however, has gone his own way. He refused to rejoin the family, attacked Reigns and was recently abducted by Royce Keys and OTM. The storyline is once again wrapped up in family conflict.
That rebuild began right after WrestleMania 42, when Reigns reunited with the Usos and was immediately confronted by Fatu. Before he exits the picture, Reigns needs to make clear whether The Bloodline will carry on without him and, more importantly, who will actually be in charge.
Completing the Trilogy With Cody Rhodes
Cody Rhodes and Reigns are tied in their WrestleMania singles matches. Reigns won at WrestleMania 39 with help from The Bloodline. Rhodes answered a year later at WrestleMania 40, bringing Reigns’ 1,316-day reign to an end.
Rhodes himself has acknowledged there is room for a third match. In 2025, he noted that they had each won once, which is exactly why, as he put it, “that third exists.”
There is now another wrinkle. Reigns just singled out Rhodes as the only one of today’s stars who has managed to take on the responsibility of carrying WWE. A final match between the two would not need a title on the line. The story is already in place.
Finally Facing The Rock
No loose end is bigger. WWE, Reigns and The Rock have come close to making this match several times, but it has never happened.
At WrestleMania 40, the idea of putting the two in the ring against each other ultimately gave way to the next chapter of Rhodes’ story. The Rock and Reigns ended up on the same side in a tag team match against Rhodes and Rollins, and Reigns even hit his own cousin with an accidental Spear.
Since then, the match has remained a topic of discussion without ever materializing. With WrestleMania 43 approaching, the possibility resurfaced behind the scenes in 2026, although The Rock’s schedule complicates matters. Ending a run built around family, power and the Tribal Chief mantle without Roman Reigns vs. The Rock would leave the biggest gap of all.
Reigns does not have to fill every open gap, of course, but some stories carry too much weight. Rhodes, The Bloodline and, above all, The Rock are part of the very foundation of the character that made Reigns WWE’s biggest name of this generation, and those stories need to be resolved.
