AEW Backstage Doesn’t Want Aleister Black Back

For those who thought Aleister Black was on his way to AEW, that’s unlikely to happen.

Aleister Black has been going through a rollercoaster of situations in pro wrestling recently, as he was released by WWE last week, just a few days after WrestleMania 42.

He is now a free agent and can sign with other companies, such as AEW, for example. As a result, many rumors have started to surface about exactly that.

Following these rumors, Wrestling Observer Radio provided an update, stating that the backstage reaction within AEW to a possible return is completely negative.

Dave Meltzer said the following on the matter:

“From what I have heard, and you may have heard differently, that the idea of Aleister Black and AEW was not fondly thought out by the people I spoke with there. Now, I did not speak to Tony Khan. Andrade was mixed. I know people there that were not high on Andrade at all and others who were. Black, from what I gathered, pretty negative. There were even people who publicly said that. That they were negative on Black.”

Meltzer’s report was corroborated by a post from Chris Jericho on X, as Y2J, on his own website, shared a post stating that AEW talent does not want Black to return.

Obviously, the post was not written by Jericho himself, but the retweet suggests that he shares the same viewpoint.

Black wrestled for AEW from 2021 to 2025 as Malakai Black, a period during which he won the AEW World Trios Championship.
