The match is official for 8/30 at Wembley Stadium, with Nightingale defending the AEW Women’s World Title against Moné, who won this year’s Owen Hart Cup. It’s their fourth match, with Nightingale up 2-1 in the series.
On Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez said Tony Khan originally had the program booked the other way, with Moné going into Wembley as champion. Per Alvarez, Khan switched everything around to get back to the match he wanted after the original plan fell apart.
It went sideways in May. Nightingale was TBS Champion and part of the original Owen Hart Cup field, but she suffered an AC joint injury in her right shoulder in a title defense against Red Velvet on 5/16, forcing her to vacate the belt and pull out of the tournament.
Moné wasn’t in the announced bracket and came in as the wild card replacement for Nightingale. The CEO went to the final and beat Maya World at Forbidden Door to earn the world title shot.
Nightingale came back on 7/8, won the women’s Casino Gauntlet, and got a shot at Thekla at Redemption. She beat Thekla on 7/26 to win the title, completing the alternate route AEW built for her.
So Khan got his Wembley match, just with the roles flipped. Moné still hasn’t won the AEW Women’s World Title after dropping the match to Toni Storm at All In last year.
The program goes back to before Moné ever signed with AEW. Nightingale beat her at NJPW Resurgence in 2023, Moné won the rematch at Double or Nothing 2024, then Nightingale beat her again at New Year’s Smash on 12/31/25 to end her record-setting TBS Title reign.
