Sheamus has yet to reveal the next step in his career, but MJF decided to stir the pot after news emerged that the Irish star is expected to leave WWE.
On Instagram, the current AEW World Champion posted an image resurfacing an old exchange of shots with Sheamus, along with the following jab:
“Bring that smoke, O’Shaunessy.”
The name choice was not random. Before arriving in WWE, Sheamus wrestled as Sheamus O’Shaunessy on the independent scene, which MJF used as a reference amid the reaction to his potential WWE exit.
The Twitter exchange between the two took place in September 2022, when Sheamus made a joke about heels wearing scarves, which MJF interpreted as a shot at him. At the time, he responded:
“The guy you alluded to. Stop now or I’m gonna devour you. You can rock 6 inch lifts and play top guy, but you’ve been handed the ball multiple times and fell.
I’m glad you’re having a resurgence and finally figured out how to get over. It only took you a decade.
Took me 1 day.”
As previously reported, Sheamus is expected to leave WWE after turning down a restructured contract extension.
Since his contract is expiring, Sheamus is not expected to be subject to the traditional 90-day non-compete clause, meaning he could sign with another company immediately if he decides to continue wrestling.
