Sheamus is close to ending his long WWE run after nearly two decades with the company.
According to Fightful Select, the Irish star turned down a restructured contract extension and is expected to leave the company when his current deal expires. The key point is that he was not released, but instead chose not to accept the new terms WWE presented.
“Sheamus is set to leave WWE as his contract is expiring. He rejected a restructured extension. He was not released.”
The situation stands out even more because Sheamus confirmed in January 2025 that he had signed a five-year deal with the company, saying he would keep wrestling until “the wheels fall off.” At the time, the deal was said to have been finalized in September 2024.

A report from @Fightful confirms that Sheamus was one of the wrestlers who opted not to restructure their contract with a pay cut, and his WWE deal is expiring imminently, with him choosing not to re-sign. pic.twitter.com/xHyD3KqSF1
However, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE approached Sheamus while he was sidelined with an injury in an attempt to restructure his contract, which he quickly turned down. The exact expiration date of his deal is still unknown, but the expectation is that it is coming up soon.
Sheamus underwent shoulder surgery in December following his most recent match on Nov. 17, when he teamed with John Cena and Rey Mysterio to defeat The Judgment Day on Monday Night Raw.
Because this is a contract expiration, Sheamus is not expected to be subject to the 90-day non-compete clause, leaving him free to sign with any other company once his exit is made official.
The “Celtic Warrior” leaves behind a huge WWE resume. He has won the WWE Championship, the World Heavyweight Championship, the United States Championship, the Raw and SmackDown Tag Team Championships, King of the Ring, the Royal Rumble, and Money in the Bank.
