Kay Lee Ray, known in WWE as Alba Fyre, revealed that the name she used during her most recent run with the company was not her own creation.
Speaking with the Daily Star, the Scottish wrestler explained that she presented a few options to the company, but the final decision ended up being WWE’s suggestion.
“It was WWE’s idea. I suggested some names, but in the end, it was a name they suggested, and we ended up going with it.”
Even so, Ray said she never saw Alba Fyre as a name disconnected from her identity. Instead, she explained that the idea behind the character made sense within the direction the company presented to her.
“Alba Fyre is Scottish fire. That’s what I am. They know what they’re doing, they’re WWE. I always felt, differently from the independents, that in WWE I’m an actress on their TV show.”
The former WWE star also drew a direct comparison between her mindset in the company and the way she works on the independent circuit.
“If they give me a character, I’m going to play that character. But on the independents, I’m going to play the character I want to play.”
Kay Lee Ray says the name "Alba Fyre" was a WWE suggestion, and that she had originally pitched the name "Paisley":

Ray also revealed that one of the ideas she pitched was “Paisley,” a reference to the city where she was born.
“People from there might make fun of me for this, but Paisley was one of the options I suggested. I was born in Paisley, so something like Paisley Ray/Rae, to go along with Kay Lee. But they said, ‘No, you’re tough, we need something more fiery.’”
Kay Lee Ray began using the Alba Fyre name in 2022 while still in NXT. During her WWE run, she was NXT UK Women’s Champion, holding the title for 649 days, and also won the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship alongside Isla Dawn.
After her WWE departure, Ray returned to being advertised under the name that made her a standout on the independent circuit. Recently, she returned to Pro Wrestling EVE in the United Kingdom, in a moment that was heavily celebrated by local fans.
With that, the difference between Kay Lee Ray and Alba Fyre becomes even clearer. In WWE, she played a character designed for television. Outside of it, she is back to being the wrestler who built her name before reaching the biggest stage in pro-wrestling.
