WWE originally planned to have Gunther face Finn Balor at Crown Jewel, but that isn’t expected to happen anymore.
In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that people working on the setup of the Riyadh Season Stadium at KAFD had access to promotional materials featuring the matches that were originally scheduled. Meltzer noted that WWE may have changed the card, but the match could still happen.
“The original lineup for Crown Jewel had Finn Balor vs. Gunther on it,” Meltzer wrote. “If it’s not happening, it was changed and the people working on the stadium in Saudi saw the old lineup posters of the different scheduled matches.”
This comes two days after photos of a poster with Gunther and Balor were shared on social media. In the photos, the two were shown at one of the entrances to the stadium, with Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton on the other side of the structure.
But on Wednesday, Riyadh Season announced that Crown Jewel was being moved out of the stadium it was originally scheduled for. The show will now be held at The Venue (ANB Arena), which is also in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Gunther and Balor have been feuding on SmackDown for weeks. On the October 9 show, Balor tried to protect Danhausen from an attack by Gunther but ended up getting brutally beaten down.
Gunther promised another confrontation with Danhausen on Friday’s SmackDown, which airs at 8 p.m. ET on USA Network.
Crown Jewel takes place on November 7 and will stream on the ESPN app in the U.S. starting at noon ET.
