Chad Gable Makes a Promise Ahead of Intercontinental Title Defense on Tonight’s WWE RAW

Chad Gable defends the WWE Intercontinental Championship against Dragon Lee in Mexico City tonight. The match is Gable’s second title defense. RAW hasn’t been in Mexico City since 2011, when Cody Rhodes was Intercontinental Champion.

Ahead of the show, Gable made a promise to the Mexican fans, looking back at what happened on May 30 at AAA Noche de Los Grandes.

“I received something from the Mexican people on May 30th that I will never forget.

Tonight, I’m walking back in for the first time – as champion.

And I’m going to return the favor.

I will defend the Intercontinental Title on RAW in Mexico City for the first time in its history.

See you tonight, amigos.”

That night, Gable lost a Mask vs. Mask Match to Ludwig Kaiser and was forced to unmask. Despite working as a heel throughout the rivalry, the crowd rallied behind him.

Just over two months later, Gable beat Penta at SummerSlam in Minneapolis, making the then-champion tap to the Ankle Lock and winning his first singles title in WWE.

Tonight’s RAW airs live on Netflix at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
