Roman Reigns defeated Penta in Monday’s RAW main event at Arena CDMX in Mexico City to remain World Heavyweight Champion.
WWE RAW’s first show in Mexico City in 15 years gave the title match an added sense of occasion. Penta earned his shot by winning an eight-man tournament featuring luchadores from RAW, SmackDown and AAA, beating Laredo Kid and La Parka before defeating his own brother, Rey Fénix, in the final.
Penta delivered one of the best performances of his WWE career in front of his home crowd. He landed the Penta Driver and later sent Arena CDMX into a frenzy by kicking out of Reigns’ first Spear.
Penta followed with two Mexican Destroyers, but Reigns kicked out again. After the two traded strikes in the center of the ring, Reigns connected with a Superman Punch and another Spear to pin Penta for the win.
The victory extends Reigns’ first World Heavyweight Championship reign, which began when he defeated CM Punk at WrestleMania 42.
Penta didn’t leave with the title, but his performance against Reigns made him look like an even bigger star.
After the match, Reigns stayed in the ring with his title held high while Penta thanked the Mexican fans.
