Charlotte Flair believes she should still hold the top spot in WWE, even as her current role centers around tag team action with Alexa Bliss.
Speaking on a recent episode of Busted Open Radio, the former world champion made it clear she doesn’t view her current run in the tag division as a demotion. Flair sees a bigger picture behind the shift in her presentation and the chance to showcase a different side of her character.
“Do I agree that I should be a main attraction? Yes. Do I think that I should be looked at and marketed like that champion that you’re thinking? Yes.
But I think being in this tag, whether it’s slow or not for some of my fans, I think there is a bigger picture and that I’m gonna keep working towards. Keep fighting for that, and you’re gonna get that, ‘That’s the champion we know.’
Me being able to be comedic with Lexi or in this tag, or working with so many different characters… I don’t want to say underdog… but I think it’s just showing that vulnerability and showing like, ‘Hey, I don’t need to have a main [attraction spot].'”
Flair also said during the interview that she considers the last year the best and most versatile of her entire career, pointing to the chance to explore traits that weren’t part of her lengthy run as world champion.
Despite the tag team focus with Bliss, Charlotte remains active as a singles competitor. At SummerSlam on August 2, she competed in the Ladder Match for the Interim WWE Women’s Championship, which Chelsea Green won.
Five days later, Flair defeated Jade Cargill in the SmackDown main event.
