Add as a preferred source on Google Chelsea Green turned one of the most talked-about lines from WWE: Unreal into part of her SummerSlam celebration, dedicating her Interim WWE Women’s Championship win to Michael Hayes while discussing the victory on the post-show.
Green captured the title in a five-woman ladder match on Night 2 of SummerSlam at U.S. Bank Stadium, beating Tiffany Stratton, Charlotte Flair, Jade Cargill, and Lash Legend. Left hanging off the ladder rungs late in the match, she pulled herself back up, made the climb, and grabbed the belt for the first world title of her career. The interim championship was created because WWE Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley is sidelined with a knee injury.
During the second season of WWE: Unreal, Hayes said the former Women’s United States Champion was not suited for a top spot and was there to help get the women above her over.
“Chelsea is so entertaining. But she is not built for, nor should she be in the Charlotte Flair role or Tiffany Stratton. Because Chelsea’s job is to help make those people,” Hayes said on the Netflix series.
The clip drew a heavy reaction from fans, and Green later said hearing one of WWE’s top producers publicly put a ceiling on her was tough to take.
Hayes has since claimed Netflix left the portion of his interview praising Green’s talent on the cutting room floor. The two eventually spoke and Hayes apologized, though Green pointed out that The Undertaker had been pushing for her to get a bigger role before any of it, and was the reason she was put in the spotlight in AAA.
