Add as a preferred source on Google Chelsea Green is the first-ever Interim WWE Women’s Champion.
Green won the five-way ladder match on Night 2 of SummerSlam at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis on Sunday, beating Tiffany Stratton, Jade Cargill, Charlotte Flair, and Lash Legend to claim the title.
The match was put together after Rhea Ripley suffered a meniscus injury and was unable to defend the WWE Women’s Championship at the event. Rather than strip Ripley of the belt, WWE opted to crown an interim champion, with the five spots in the match filled through qualifying matches on SmackDown.
Legend used her power advantage to control much of the early going. Green was sent into a ladder along the way and later ate a Jaded from Cargill.
Flair came the closest before the finish. The Queen made it to the top and got her hands on the title, only for Cargill to yank her down while Legend grabbed her other leg. The two then took Flair out before turning their attention back to each other.
With all four of her opponents down, Green took advantage, scaled the ladder, and unhooked the title.
It’s the first world championship of Green’s WWE run. She’s a former Women’s Tag Team Champion and made history as the inaugural Women’s United States Champion, later becoming the first two-time holder of that title. She also won the AAA World Mixed Tag Team Championship alongside Ethan Page.
