Add as a preferred source on Google Chris Jericho says he has no timeline for retirement and will continue wrestling as long as he remains happy with the level of his work.
During a recent appearance on Beef Vegan Presents, Jericho pointed to his match against Tommaso Ciampa at Sunday’s AEW Redemption pay-per-view as evidence that he can still perform at a high level at 55. Jericho won after using a power drill, causing Ciampa to submit.
“I don’t really put a time limit on it. Did I ever think I’d be doing this at 55 years old? No. But do I think about doing this? It just seems like, ‘Yeah, 55, 25, 35.’
You look at the match we had Sunday, as crazy as it was, it’s still a great match. And probably one of the best matches on the show from a fan reaction standpoint. So why would I want to walk away from that? I still enjoy doing it and I can still do it at a level where there’s still potential to steal the show.
It could be another week, it could be another two or three years. I don’t want to do it forever, but as long as I feel like I’m still happy with the work that I’m doing and I’m not second-guessing myself, then I’ll continue to do it.”
Jericho and Ciampa’s Redemption match was their second singles meeting in less than three weeks. Ciampa defeated Jericho at AEW Dynamite: Beach Break on July 8 after throwing sand in Jericho’s eyes and hitting a Running Knee.
