Chris Jericho and Don Callis were at the center of one of the most talked-about moments from the August 12 AEW Dynamite, and not in a good way. A botch during the TNT Championship match quickly blew up on social media.
Jericho faced Kevin Knight, with Callis in his corner, at The Pearl Theater at the Palms in Las Vegas. The veteran had strong crowd support, drawing “You Still Got It” chants during the bout.
The issue came when Jericho locked in the Walls of Jericho in the center of the ring. Callis was supposed to interfere with his trademark screwdriver but was apparently out of position. Jericho had to visibly walk toward the ropes while still holding the submission on Knight so Callis could finally make the attack. AEW‘s cameras caught the whole thing.
Fan reaction on social media was immediate:
“Might be the worse spot in the past 25 years, prove me wrong #aew.”
Another comment was even harsher:
“Yeah man.. Wrestling is dead. Pack this s*** up lmao.”

1:28 AM · Aug 13, 2026Jericho and Callis weren’t the only ones taking heat. AEW’s production crew also drew criticism for not cutting away while the spot was being adjusted.
“How can two guys with 20+ years in the business fuck up a basic spot like that? But the worst offender may be the camera crew and/or director for keeping the camera squarely on Jericho while he’s getting in position. A simple 2 second cut to the crowd could have hid everything.”
Despite the awkward moment, the match continued. Knight landed a low blow behind the referee’s back and hit the Crash Landing to retain the TNT Championship. It was Jericho’s first shot at the title.
After the match, Darby Allin once again challenged Knight to a Falls Count Anywhere Match for the belt at AEW All In on August 30 at Wembley Stadium.
