CM Punk said learning the moves isn’t enough to make someone a star.
On Monday’s Hot Ones: Extra Heat, the “Best in the World” said part of what sets wrestlers apart can’t be taught.
Punk explained:
“I think there’s a lot of things that can’t be taught. I think some of the greatest wrestling superstars all had something prior to learning how the mechanics work, prior to learning how to run the ropes. I think The Rock is a great example, he’s just somebody who is entertaining. Intangible is the greatest word I can possibly use. I can teach a monkey how to do this, right? It’s up to that monkey to show a little bit of flair and speciality like, what makes you stand out? Why should people open up their wallet and buy a ticket to come see you?”
Punk’s example, The Rock, faced him in two WWE Championship matches in early 2013. At the Royal Rumble, Rock ended Punk’s 434-day reign. He then beat Punk again in their Elimination Chamber rematch.
The 29-minute episode is the second Hot Ones: Extra Heat special. The full interview, hosted by Sean Evans, is available on Netflix.
