Cody Rhodes opened up about a rare moment of frustration backstage in WWE during the road to WrestleMania 42.
During an appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, the Undisputed WWE Champion discussed the controversial involvement of Pat McAfee and Jelly Roll in his feud with Randy Orton, saying that despite all the outside factors, he was proud of how he handled the situation.
Rhodes said there were a lot of major names involved, as well as big egos, and that his goal was to make everything work as well as possible.
However, when asked if he would have done anything differently, Cody admitted that he had a negative reaction backstage, though he downplayed the incident.
“In retrospect, I had a bit of an outburst backstage, which shockingly didn’t get reported because it seems like everything gets reported. I knew right when I got to my bus, and when I say outbursts, it’s like me muttering some curse words like on the Christmas story and yelling and you know knocking over some water bottles. Nothing too intense.”
“But I remember getting to my bus and thinking, ‘Yeah, you outgrew that. That we’re not you if you want if if you want a job, you know, in the wrestling space, nobody has a harder job than Triple H right now. There’s never been a booker in the history of the business that has just been beloved and revered the entire time. Nobody has a harder job and no one can do that job better than he can do it. And I it’s obviously something that interests me too. So I remember thinking when I got to the bus thinking, ‘Yeah, I I’ve outgrown that. I don’t need to be having temper tantrums. I need to be helping provide solutions.’”
According to Rhodes, the incident only involved a few muttered curse words, some yelling, and knocked-over water bottles. Even so, once he got to his bus, he realized that kind of behavior no longer fit the role he currently holds in WWE.
The apparent reason was the use of profanity during WWE programming. Rhodes explained that he does not see room for that kind of language in WWE, especially because the broadcast in the United States can be cut when it happens, causing fans to miss part of the show.
Rhodes remains at the top of WWE, and his next major challenge will come at Night of Champions, where he will defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against Gunther and Sami Zayn in a Triple Threat Match.
