Michael Cole revealed he came close to being part of one of the darkest storylines of Bray Wyatt’s career, but the project never made it onto WWE programming.
In a recent appearance on The Sal Licata Show, which aired during the week of the seventh anniversary of The Fiend’s television debut, Cole said he and Wyatt spent years working on a series of interviews inspired by Charles Manson’s prison appearances.
The idea would have put Cole face-to-face with Wyatt in an interrogation-style setting, meant to show the sicker, more sadistic side of the character. The project was set to be broken into several parts and had already been fully planned out by the two.
“We had even mapped it out, and the concept was ready to go. And for some reason, it never happened.”
While he couldn’t explain why the story got scrapped, Cole believes the interviews would have helped Wyatt develop the character even further. He also said that everything Wyatt created turned to gold.
The Fiend made his first physical appearance on the July 15, 2019, episode of Monday Night Raw, attacking Finn Balor after his match against Samoa Joe. A few weeks later, at SummerSlam, Wyatt defeated Balor himself in his first match as the character.
Cole closed by saying Wyatt is still missed every day by everyone in the company. The former WWE Champion died on August 24, 2023, at age 36.
