Dominik Mysterio has made it clear that he will not let anyone else end Rey Mysterio’s WWE career.
During an appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, Dominik, the current AAA Mega Champion, said it is his “birthright” to retire Rey and vowed to take his father’s mask and name.
“It has to be. I don’t see any other way for it. I genuinely don’t. It’s my birthright. I will lose my absolute sh*t if it’s not me. I have to do it, it’s the only way possible. I gotta take his mask and I gotta take his name.”
The idea has not come from Dominik alone. In 2024, Rey said the perfect scenario for his last match would be facing Dominik with the mask on the line. Rey also named Santos Escobar as a possible alternative.
Rey and Dominik have already shared the ring in two WrestleMania matches. Rey defeated Dominik on April 1, 2023, at WrestleMania 39. A year later, Rey teamed with Andrade to beat Dominik and Santos Escobar at WrestleMania 40.
Rey recently said he considered retiring about six years ago, but found new motivation when Dominik decided to pursue a career in pro wrestling, opening the door for a match between them.
