Neil Patrick Harris has revealed that he was a secret WWE fan as a kid, something he sees as one of the first signs of his sexuality. Harris is best known for his roles on How I Met Your Mother and Doogie Howser, M.D.
Sam Roberts asked Harris about his interest in WWE during a recent SiriusXM interview on September 15. Harris recalled following the company when he was younger. On Monday, September 21, Roberts shared a clip from the conversation on social media, The Advocate reported.
“I secretly liked the WWE when I was younger, because it was kind of a tell for knowing I was gonna be gay,” Harris said. “It was just, like, tight shorts; they’re oiled up. Grappling. So it’s like, I’m not supposed to be liking this as much as I am.”
Roberts also asked whether Harris was already following wrestling when he was starring on Doogie Howser, M.D. Harris confirmed that he was and said he also liked Masters of the Universe enough to collect the action figures, according to The Advocate.
Harris publicly came out as gay in November 2006. He said at the time that he chose to speak openly about it after speculation about his personal life grew, according to CBS News.
Harris was promoting his new film, Sunny Dancer, when he spoke with Roberts. The movie, which opened in U.S. theaters on September 18, also features Bella Ramsey and casts Harris as the head of a camp for young people affected by cancer.
