Luchasaurus went through one of the most difficult stretches of his career during the long period he was away from AEW due to health issues.
In a recent interview on Talk is Jericho, the wrestler revealed that the situation started as a persistent cold, just before a trip for AEW Grand Slam in New York. At the time, he was still involved in a storyline with Christian Cage, going by the name Killswitch.
According to Luchasaurus, something felt off before the flight, and he decided to notify AEW physician Doc Sampson. He was told to stay home. The company then had to creatively cover for his absence that week.
The problem, however, was much more serious. The wrestler was diagnosed with pneumonia in both lungs and ended up bedridden, relying on oxygen. In September 2024, Fightful had already reported that he was rushed to the hospital after being found collapsed, with his oxygen level below 80%.
Luchasaurus also brought up Brodie Lee when talking about the fear of the situation getting even worse, but pointed out that he never had to be put on a ventilator. The antibiotics worked, and he was medically cleared about three months later.
Despite that, his return to the ring took much longer. The wrestler himself said that he and Jack Perry stayed off TV for another eight months, even though they were already healthy.
Luchasaurus returned to AEW in August 2025, still as Killswitch, before officially going back to the Luchasaurus name and reuniting with Jack Perry the following month.
