Gunther and Finn Bálor clashed again on this week’s SmackDown, with both men vying for a shot at the WWE Championship.
Backstage, Bálor was talking with Nick Aldis and made it clear he wants back in the title picture. The SmackDown General Manager suggested he try his luck at Money in the Bank, but Gunther interrupted and took another shot at Bálor.
“You peaked 10 years ago. If you would have any decency for yourself, you would’ve hung up your boots a long time ago,” Gunther said.
Bálor didn’t let it slide. He answered with a punch right to Gunther’s face, dropping him.
The tension between the two has been building for weeks. On the August 28 SmackDown, Bálor, Gunther, and Kevin Owens competed in a Triple Threat Match to determine the next WWE Championship contender, but Sami Zayn interfered and the match ended in a no contest. Before the interference, Bálor had hit the Coup de Grace on Gunther and was seconds away from winning.
As of now, WWE hasn’t announced a match between Gunther and Bálor. Given the recent confrontations, though, it seems like only a matter of time.
